From The North Midland Times newspaper, Friday 2 April 1948:
Tennis – Waddy Forest Easter Tournament
"... The outstanding match was the final of the Gents' Singles Handicap when 15 year old Colin Hyde with a -15 handicap, defeated near veteran, much experienced Ed Davies (-30) at 9/8. If was a most refreshing match and perhaps the gallery will be excused if they were a little bit Colin's way as he fought to victory from being down 5/8."
