"Bill" Charles William DRING and George DRING [P37]
In 1924 Bill was working as a farmhand in Western Australia and George as a jackeroo in New South Wales, Australia [P37]
With the prospect of earning £6 per week the two brothers decided to join forces and work as clearing contractors [P37]
George caught the next available ship to Western Australia and so began their partnership "Dring Bros" [P37]
Contract Clearers at various localities in Western Australia, including Mandiga near Bencubbin [P37]
By 1926 they had saved enough for a deposit on a farm and decided to look into buying one from the Midland Railway Company [P37]
Bill travelled to Coorow by train and then went with the Midland Railway Company's agent by horse to inspect a farm [P37]
On 9 April 1926 they signed a contract with the Midland Railway Company to purchase 2201 acres of virgin land near Carnamah [27]
The 2201 acres was Lot M1632 of Victoria Location 2201 and cost £1045 (which they paid for by instalments over 22 years) [27]
At the time of purchasing the land in Carnamah they were living and working in Dangin near Quairading [34]
They arrived in Carnamah by train to take possession of the property in August 1926 [P37]
Harold POPE, their new neighbour, kindly drove them from Carnamah town to their new farm in his T Model Ford car [P37]

They initially resided at a "camp" near a running creek, however later shifted to a more central part of the farm [P37]
From August 1926 to February 1927 they worked at clearing the farm from daylight until dusk [P37]
They then cleared the surveyed road from Harold POPE's farm to their own (which although surveyed had not been made) [P37]
In 1927 purchased a Fordson tractor, 10 disc Sundercut plough and 20 run Sunshine drill to plant their first crop of 200 acres [P37]
Later in 1927 purchased from Carnamah agent N. W. REYNOLDS a 10 foot AL harvester for £60 [P37]
Continued clearing the farm and in 1928 purchased another Fordson tractor, 10 disc plough and 20 run drill to plant 1000 acres [P37]
In 1928 they took on a third partner - "Doug" Edward Victor Douglas ALLEN and traded as "Dring Bros & Allen" [P37]
In partnership with their partner Doug ALLEN purchased a further 4696 acres of land near Carnamah on 21 August 1928 [27]
The 4696 acres was Lot M1776 of Victoria Location 2023 and cost £2231 which was payable by instalments over 15 years [27]
In November 1929 purchased a Caterpillar tractor from Carnamah dealer Ray WYLIE[4: 23-Nov-1929]
Also during November 1929 they purchased a Guy truck from Dalgety & Company Limited [81: 24-Nov-1929]
Had an account with Carnamah blacksmith, wheelwright and motor mechanics Henry Parkin & Son from the 1920s to the 1940s [53]
In 1931 they had 2000 acres of crop and another 2000 acres in fallow for the following year [P37]
Made arrangements to buy out ALLEN's share in the farm after he decided farming wasn't for him and returned to Ireland in 1933 [P37]
The local newspaper revealed on 6 April 1934 that there was a parcel for him at the Carnamah railway station [5: 13-Apr-1934]
In 1938 purchased a RD4 Caterpillar tractor, 18 disc King Shearer plough with seed box, 5 ton International truck [P37]
In 1938 also introduced sheep to the property which up until that time hadn't contained any livestock[P37]
On 19 April 1944 they purchased from the Midland Railway Company another 2498 acres of farmland near Carnamah [27]
The 2498 acres had been the farm of LEWIS Bros for 12 years before the Midland Railway Company had rescinded the sale [27]
The 2498 acres was Lot M1634 of Victoria Location 2023 and cost £1124 (which was paid by instalments within 15 years) [27]
During part of the war George served in the Royal Australian Air Force and Bill ran the farm with the help of Vincent KENNEDY [P37]
Dissolved partnership after the end of the Second World War [P37]
George took Lewis' block of 2498 acres (Lot M1634) as well as a cash pay-out and annual payments from Bill [P37]
Bill took the original 6897 acres (Lots M1632 and M1776) and had to pay what was still owing to Doug ALLEN [P37]
