Resided with his parents and five siblings on Nangetty Station in Mingenew, where his father was working as a Teamaster ^{[50] [390]}
He was baptised by Rev. Ernest GILL, the Church of England rector in Dongara ^[332]
While shooting with two station hands his father was killed in 1910 aged 43 after a bullet accidentally hit near his heart ^{[390: 12-Nov-1910]}
In 1917 his mother married Archibald Winchester SPOKES ^{[66] [176]}
