Coming of Age Party
"Approximately 150 guests accepted the invitation of Mrs J. M. Jones and Mrs Waldeck of Coorow to be present at the celebration of the coming of age of Mrs Waldeck's son, Bronte, in the Carnamah hall on Friday, January 2. The hall was very prettily decorated with blue and gold paper streamers, festooned from the centre and with fern and greenery and other coloured paper decorations. Excellent dance music was provided by York’s Orchestra from Watheroo. Mr J. C. Haig carried out the duties of M.C. in a very efficient manner and kept the fun rolling along with a swing. Dancing was interspersed with novelty items and games, which were entered into with enthusiasm, and created a wealth of fun for all. A definite feature of the evening was the delightfully decorated tables, which bore a banquet in the form of a sit down supper. To even begin to describe the beautifully prepared and elaborately served repast would involve more room than would be allowed for this report. A very handsomely 3-tiered birthday cake graced the main table, and was later cut and distributed among the guests. Mr Arnold Bierman, who officiated as chairman opened the toast list by asking those present to honour the toast to The King. Musical and vocal items were rendered by Mrs J. C. Haig, piano forte, Mr C. Robertson, vocal, Mr J.L. Adams, recitation. The following toasts were then proposed and responded to after which the centre of the hall was cleared and dancing proceeded with. The first toast was that to 'The Guest of Honour, Bront Waldeck' and was proposed by H. E. Jones and supported by G. A. Raffan. Having read out a large sheaf of telegrams of good wishes and congratulations, the chairman, Mr Bierman, called upon Mr Waldeck to respond. The toast of Our Hostesses, Mrs Jones and Mrs Waldeck, was very ably proposed by C .C. Bothe, supported by Peter Thomson. Both Mrs Jones and Mrs Waldeck responded in a fitting manner. Mr J. L. Adams proposed the toast of Absent Friends, and Mr J. K. Forrester to The Caterer, Mrs Wells, who responded in suitable terms. A truly delightful party was terminated by the singing of Auld Lang Syne."
