Son of John Morrison MALEY and Ethel Henrietta Jane CLINCH ^[15]
He was a grandson of Greenough pioneer John Stephen MALEY who built the first flour mill at Greenough ^{[86: 10-Mar-1934]}
His maternal grandfather Thomas CLINCH, also of Greenough, had imported the first harvester into Western Australia ^{[39: 14-Apr-1934]}
Resided with his parents on farmland in Greenough and then on a property in Howatharra ^{[50] [86: 10-Mar-1934]}
In April 1912, along with his mother and siblings, left Howatharrra to join his father on a property in Yuba ^{[86: 14-Mar-1912, 14-May-1912]}
They'd only been in Yuba for one month when his mother died at the age of 42 years on 9 May 1912 ^{[29] [86: 14-May-1912]}
