     Gave his mother as his next of kin, her address at the time being 8 Gladstone Street, Fullarton Estate, Adelaide, South Australia [30]
     After brief training at Blackboy Hill he was on 1 May 1916 appointed to the 20th Reinforcements of the 11th Battalion [30]
     Embarked Fremantle, Western Australia for active service abroad on the H.M.A.T. Clan McGillivray on 18 September 1916 [30]
     Disembarked in Plymouth, England and after further training proceeded to France on 17 December 1916 [30]
     Private 6343 in the Australian Imperial Force's 11th Battalion in France during the First World War [30]
     After a number of hospitalisations he was returned to England and then Australia suffering from "Effort Syndrome" [30]
     Discharged from the Australian Imperial Force on 24 September 1918 [30]
