Mary TONNER / SIMPSON

Daughter of John and Kathleen TONNER ^[15]
Along with her husband David SIMPSON, son James and elder two daughters departed London, England on the Gothic ^[70]
They arrived on the Gothic in Fremantle, Western Australia on 27 January 1913 ^[70]
After arrival her husband worked briefly as a farmhand before securing employment with the Midland Railway Company ^{[4: 17-May-1952]}
Initially resided with her husband and children in Irwin, and then from 1914 to early 1916 they lived in Gunyidi ^{[4: 17-May-1952] [19]}
Resided with her husband and children in Carnamah from 1916 until 1920 ^{[6] [19] [98]}
In mid 1920 they left Carnamah and shifted to Three Springs, presumably following her husband's transfer ^[98]
Through raffling a pig she raisded £1/1/- for the Three Springs Saint Patrick's Day Committee in 1925 ^[124]
Herself and her children appear to have remained living in Three Springs when her husband was transferred to Gunyidi in 1925 ^{[19] [98]}
Resided with her husband and children in Winchester from 1926 until her death in 1939 ^{[1] [5: 21-Apr-1939]}
They lived in a house at Lot 51 on the south side of Petan Street in the Winchester townsite ^{[3] [P217]}
While returning to Winchester from Coorow with her husband on 31 December 1936 their car was involved in a head on collision ^[88]
     Herself and her husband were seriously injured and were taken to the Carnamah Private Hospital where they were operated on ^[88]
     Her injuries included a deep incised wound on her scalp, shock and abrasions ^[88]
     Her operation was successful however doctors Cecil P. ROSENTHAL and Mario A. MAYRHOFER feared complications ^[88]
     Their Ford car with license plate CA-340 and the other car were badly damaged and were pulled to the side of the road ^{[5: 8-Jan-1937]}
     They both spent a considerable time at Dr Cecil P. ROSENTHAL's Carnamah Private Hospital following the accident ^{[5: 15-Jan-1937]}
A Miss DAVIES of Bowgada holidayed with herself and her husband in Winchester in September 1937 ^{[5: 17-Sep-1937]}
Resided in Winchester until her death in 1939 from carcinoma of coronary artery^{[1] [5: 21-Apr-1939]}

Died 19 April 1939 in Winchester; buried at Winchester Cemetery in Carnamah, Western Australia (Row K, Plot 11) ^[1]
Father Michael LYNCH of Three Springs officiated at her funeral, which was undertaken by Henry Parkin & Son of Carnamah ^[1]

Obituary - Vale Mrs. D. Simpson
"It is with extreme regret that we record the death of Mrs. D. Simpson, who passed away at her home at Winchester early on Wednesday morning. The deceased lady had suffered indifferent health for a long time past, and although the news of her death was not altogether unexpected, it cast a deep gloom over the whole district. The passing of Mrs. Simpson severs yet another link with the early days of the district. The deceased was born in Donegal, Ireland, and came to Australia as the age of 35. She has resided in the North Midland districts ever since, and has spent the last thirteen years living in Winchester. The late Mrs. Simpson was held in the highest respect, and was loved by all with whom she came in contact. She leaves a husband, three daughters Kate (Mrs. Jones), Peg (Mrs. Kitson), and Vera and one son Jack, to mourn their loss. The funeral took place on Wednesday afternoon, the remains being laid to rest in the Roman Catholic portion of the Winchester cemetery. A large cortege followed the remains to their last resting place. The burial service was conducted by the Rev. Father Lynch, of the North Midlands Parish of the R.C. Church. The pall-bearers were Messrs. W. G. Mulligan, H. Morrison, L. Gersch, A. Gersch, H. Williams and G. A. Bradshaw. The chief mourners were her husband and Mrs. Jones (daughter), Mrs. Kitson (daughter), Vera (daughter), Jack (son) and K. Kitson (son-in-law)."
