From The Irwin Index newspaper, Saturday 29 November 1941:
Obituary - Late Mr P. S. Howard - Funeral at Three Springs
"The funeral of the late Mr Patrick Samuel Howard took place at Three Springs on Sunday last in the presence of a large and representative gathering, the service at the graveside being conducted by the Rev. C.A. Walsh.  The deceased gentleman, who was born at York 67 years ago, resided at Three Springs for the past 31 years, and was a particularly well known and highly respected member of the community. He is survived by a widow and a family of six sons and five daughters. As a mark of respect to the late Mr Howard, who has two sons on active service, the members of the Three Springs home Guard led the cortege under the direction of the section commander (Mr A.R. Strutton). The chief mourners at the graveside were his widow, Jim and Kevin (sons) and Alice, Grace, Mary, Doris and Ivy (daughters). A large number of wreaths and floral tributes were placed on the grave, and in their bereavement the family have been the recipients of widespread expressions of sympathy."
