Departed England with his parents on the sailing ship Otago and arrived in Fremantle, Western Australia on 4 June 1886 ^[69]
Also on board the same voyage of the Otaga were his mother's parents, three brothers and four sisters ^[69]
Resided with his parents in Dongara ^{[225: 29-Mar-1888]}
His father went to fish from the local jetty in Dongara on the night of 15 March 1888 but failed to return home ^{[225: 29-Mar-1888]}
The next day his father's body was found on the seabed under the jetty with an inquest finding he'd died from accidental drowning ^[225]

He had multiple distinguishing marks including scars on his nose and forehead and vaccination marks on his left arm ^[30]
Private 2165 in the Australian Imperial Force's 4th Australian Camel Regiment in Egypt during the First World War ^[30]
After being hospitalised numerous times for neuritis and sciatica he returned to Australia in early 1917 ^[30]
Discharged from the Australian Imperial Force on 2 April 1917; received the British War Medal and the Victory Medal ^[30]
